Community Presentations

Local Crime: Community Sentence (LCCS)Want to find out more about Community Sentences?

The Local Crime Community Sentence project (LCCS) is a joint venture by magistrates and probation officers to increase knowledge and understanding of community sentences.

Surrey & Sussex Probation Trust works with magistrates from courts in Surrey & Sussex London to deliver free presentations to community groups.

Who can take part?

Groups who have participated in the scheme included carers associations, religious groups and professional organisations.

Its an opportunity for your group to 'be the judge', sentencing a serious crime and deciding whether the offender goes to prison or is given a community sentence.

What does the presentation involve?

Your group will be taken through a case study of a fictional crime.  You are provided with all the background information to the offence, how it was reported in the media, and the offenders personal circumstances.  The group will then be asked, based on the evidence provided, to determine the sentence.
The presentation lasts about an hour, and can be delivered at any time to community groups.  It gives members of the group the opportunity to discuss their thoughts on community punishment, and ask questions of presenters in an open and honest forum.

Groups don't need to provide any equipment - we bring everything we need with us. The presentation is absolutely free of charge.
