MAPPA Annual Reports Published

27/10/2010

The partnership of organisations which manage sexual and dangerous offenders in Surrey and Sussex have published their annual reports today.

Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in England and Wales were put in place nine years ago to provide more robust management systems for offenders living in the community through the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

MAPPA involves police, probation, prison, local authorities and other relevant agencies working together closely and sharing information to ensure the risks posed to the public by violent and sexual offenders are minimised.

The Surrey and Sussex MAPPA annual reports, published today (October 27), provides statistical information on MAPPA offenders, explains how they are managed and provides examples of where multi-agency working has been successful in protecting the public.

Nick Smart, Surrey & Sussex Probation Trust deputy chief executive and co-chair of MAPPA strategic management boards in Surrey and Sussex, said: "We recognise that risk can never be entirely eliminated when managing difficult and potentially dangerous individuals but the information in today's annual reports testifies that MAPPA is a very effective and continually developing method of partnership working."
