Last year we asked offenders what they felt about completing offending behaviour programmes. Here's what they told us:

98% felt the programme could help them to avoid reoffending to some extent with 89% saying it could help them a lot
99% felt they had learned something from the course with 87% indicating they had learned a lot
The main benefits of the programme identified by respondents were knowledge gained, problem solving / planning and thinking / considering options.
The three best things about the programme were identified by respondents as course content, people in the group and tutors
Fewer than 1% rated the programme or any aspect of it as poor
When asked for additional comments or recommendations for improvement, 57% of respondents expressed appreciation for the programme.

512 offenders successfully completed offending behaviour programmes in 2009/10 in Surrey and Sussex.

Offending behaviour programmes are designed to address and challenge the activities and patterns of behaviour that contribute to committing crime.

These programmes are courses that offenders have to attend either as part of a Community Order or as a condition of release from prison.

Surrey and Sussex Probation Trust operate the following Accredited Offending Behaviour Programmes:

Aimed at men who have been abusive towards wives, partners or ex-partners.

An intensive, well-established programme for people who have committed sex offences.

A group programme which seeks to develop and challenge offenders' self control and problem solving skills which have led to their offending.
