Trust Board Chair - John Steele

John SteeleLives in Horsham, West Sussex. John has held senior positions in the Police Service, the Prison Service and the Home Office. Brings to the Board his wide experience of strategic, financial and personnel management. Has experience of contestability in the Prison Service. Previously an elected member in several local authorities including the London Borough of Lambeth

Susan Elizabeth

Susan ElizabethLives in Horsham, West Sussex, and has wide experience in the voluntary sector engaged mainly in reconnecting marginalised individuals with mainstream society. Her roles have included Chief Executive of the Camelot Foundation, Deputy Director of the National Council of One Parent Families, and currently she is a Trustee of BBC Children in Need and a member of the national Charity Tribunal.

She brings a breadth of experience and understanding of the complex issues of disadvantage and offending, and a measured but positive approach to problems.

Chris Grimes

Chris GrimesLives in Hindhead Surrey. An Accountant by profession who spent most of his career working with the National Health Service. Before retirement he was Head of Health Services at the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy and Chief Executive of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He was Chairman of Guildford & Waverley PCT for 4 years and brings to the Board financial management and strategic business skills.

Charles Everett

Charles EverettLives in Robertsbridge, East Sussex. He is a recently retired Senior Civil Servant with broad experience as a senior manager. He has managed large contracts including the successful delivery of a major PFI building project and turning around the performance of a large IT contract. Recently appointed Chair of the Hastings & Rother PCT. He brings to the Board a clear business focus, coupled with a measured style and preference for achieving consensus.

Stewart Neal

Stewart NealLives in East Grinstead. A chemist by training, he has a wide range of international business experience within a multinational company, and latterly was a partner in a risk management and corporate social responsibility consultancy. He also does voluntary work in the community. He brings to the Board a range of financial and strategic business skills, an understanding of working with different nationalities, and a focus on achieving high performance.

John Jeffery

John JefferyJohn is a retired Serco Group CEO and, prior to that was a Chief Officer in local government where he led a management employee buy-out of a works department, and then sold that business to Serco in the early nineties.

Johns last role with Serco was to head the group's home affairs division running private prisons, immigration centres, electronic monitoring and court escorting (which started his interest in the Criminal Justice System). Following a D.M.S. at Portsmouth John's managerial career has been very much focused on the management of change, I.R, and growing competent management teams. John lives in Esher with his wife Di.

Frances Rumsey

Frances RumseyFrances joined the Surrey Probation Board in January 2006. She has worked mainly in the public sector with a short period in the voluntary sector working for a charity for people with disabilities. Frances has many years experience of managing front line welfare benefits organisations across most areas in central and south London. She is currently an HR professional working in a pensions policy area for Department of Work and Pensions. Her main focus at work has been in the areas of leadership through change, diversity, coaching and people development.

Frances is married and lives with her husband in Esher. They have a married daughter and a baby grandson.
She is a yoga practitioner, loves to travel and learn about new people and cultures and is a trained volunteer mentor for looked-after young people. 

Jacqueline Pendleton

Jacqueline PendletonLives in Middleton on Sea. Spent most of her adult life living in London, East Grinstead and Henley on Thames. Grew up in West Sussex where she was educated in addition to periods of travelling around the world with family who were attached to the Armed forces. Has worked in business most of her life, a large proportion of which has been spent in British Airways as both a human resources professional and an operational line manager. Latterly took on responsibility for running the BA Cargo business when it was going through a complex period of change in facilities, processes, behaviours and work ethic. Subsequent to that she worked in a juvenile prison and gained a further BA in Psychology & Sociology and an MSc in Forensic Psychology. Is a member of the IMB at HMYOI Huntercombe (former Chair). She has a sound understanding of the complexity of criminal justice. Both a leader and team player.
